Using wigs for hair growth

ree

It’s not a secret that Queens love their wigs. I want to ask, are you maintaining your real hair under your wigs? Did you know you could be using wigs to help grow your real hair? I’m sure you have at least seen a few YouTube videos on the topic. Here is some advice and a few tips for utilizing wigs to help grow your hair and how to make sure you retain your length.

1. Moisturize and deep condition

Keeping your hair moisturized is a huge part of retaining the length of your hair. Your hair could grow like weeds, but if it is breaking off you will never be able to tell. For deep conditioning, I recommend blending the following ingredients and applying them to wet hair, and allowing to sit for at least 30 minutes before rinsing.

-1 Egg

-Banana

-Avocado

-Honey

-Olive oil

-Castor oil

- Mayo

This mixture adds protein and moisture throughout the hair. Repeating this process every two weeks prevents your hair from breaking.

2. Braid your hair

I know you Queens get busy and sometimes it’s easier to pull your hair in a bun or pin it down and throw your wig on. You must make time to braid your hair down to keep it protected and to help lock in moisture. If you did the big chop this does not apply to you until you are able to braid your hair. Until then, be sure you use wig caps to keep your hair protected. Braids are a protective style and low manipulation contributes to hair growth.

3. Protect your hair

For my Queens who like to remove their wigs every night, be sure to wear a bonnet or satin cap to protect your hair. You also have the option to use satin pillowcases and sheets to protect your hair. Not wearing a silk bonnet on cotton sheets will lead to moisture being removed from your hair. The friction of your hair rubbing across the cotton also causes breakage.

4. Be careful when removing your wigs

For my Queens that like to secure their wigs and wear them for periods of time before removing them, please remove them carefully. I have seen many women just pull their units off and the glue snatches their edges. Sounds painful right. Please ally glue remover or some type of moisture to help loosen the glue to help safely remove your wig from your hair.
